Wilkes-Barre Area Local 175

FMLA

Some info you need to know.

It has come to our attention that there are some misconceptions about the Family Medical Leave Act. This act gives an employee the right to take time off and not be disciplined. The employee can take time off under the act for the following reasons:

  1. For the employee's own serious health conditions
  2. To care for the employee's spouse, parent son, or daughter who has a serious health condition
  3. For the birth of a child
  4. For the adoption of a child

It must be remembered that there are some qualifying factors that must be met in order to be eligible for Family Medical Leave.

  1. You must have been employed by the USPS for at least 12 months.
  2. You must have worked a minimum of 1250 hours during the 12 month period prior to the commencement of the use of FMLA.

This is just a short description of the FMLA. For answers to more specific questions see a Union Representative.

More will be added to this page at a later date.
